The Two Americas’ Tug of War
The Two Americas’ Tug of War
“A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague.” ~ Marcus Tillius Cicero
Our small business networking group was treated to the most profoundly encouraging experience I’ve enjoyed in quite some time. We are an eclectic mix of legal and insurance professionals, contractors, health suppliers, computer and energy consultants, artists and realtors from all sides of the political spectrum who meet once a week for breakfast and lead/referral-sharing.
Each week a rotating member takes his or her turn to do a 15 minute infomercial showcasing their products and services. Yesterday our computer consultant Ed chose to do what few dare do in these politically turbulent times. Instead of showcasing his business, he chose to dive into the whitewater and take us with him!
Now Ed, who is my political polar opposite, said he was inspired to take us here after reading some of my blogs. He began by listing some of the wants we all share. We all want homes in safe communities to raise our children. We all want to be able to make enough money to provide an education, affordable healthcare, pay our bills and take a vacation. We all want access to resources like clean water and energy.
He then took us through his perception of how we have evolved from a community of similar wants to a community divided, and how we each filter news and current events through the lens of our own ideological bias. He seemed to get the greatest group buy-in when he suggested that both parties intentionally pit the citizenry against itself to keep us divided in order to maintain their grip on power. I have to say, I was very impressed by his courage to tackle something so weighty, as well as his selfless intent in doing so. “I think I have a way to fix this.” He said! He concluded with some interesting theories extracted from books and studies on “inclusive vs. exclusive societies” and “The Cherokee Nation”.
While it is people like Ed and our particularly diverse networking group that has somehow managed to identify and value friendship above partisanship that restore my faith in us as a people…I also know in my heart of hearts that we will be at war with each other quite soon. And here is why…
Interestingly, before Ed announced the “topic” of his 15 minute presentation, the subject of the “lost” IRS emails came up. One of the members who happens to be a CPA, looked directly at Ed (the computer consultant) when he asked “how is it possible for seven people in the same company to lose the same six months of emails at the same time?” This caused me to wonder why it is that for some reason certain things get left off this list of the “common wants” we all share.
- IRS Targeting Citizens– Shouldn’t stopping this be a common want of ours?
- Double Standards- Shouldn’t rejecting this be a common want of ours?
- Freedom of Speech- Shouldn’t this be a common want of ours?
- Freedom of Religion- Shouldn’t this be a common want of ours?
- Border Security- Shouldn’t this be a common want of ours?
- Free Press- Shouldn’t this be a common want of ours?
- Rule of Law- Shouldn’t this be a common want of ours?
- Accountability in Public Office- Shouldn’t this be a common want of ours?
- Right to Privacy- Shouldn’t this be a common want of ours?
- Individual & Property Rights- Shouldn’t these be common wants of ours?
- Separation of Powers- Shouldn’t this be a common want of ours?
The fact is that I probably could not list a more crucial set of wants that are essential to the survival of our Republic if I tried! Tragically, as a matter of fact, not only do we not share these wants with our friends on the Left, they remain silent while those of us on the Right are targeted and branded as extremists, bigots, domestic terrorists and worse for defending them! How many seconds would a Republican President have lasted after the 1st wisp of the IRS going after any individual or group because of their beliefs?
Meghan Kelly has conducted one of the most fascinating and revealing interviews I have ever witnessed. She had both domestic terrorist and Obama mentor Bill Ayers and Dinesh D’Souza, author of “America, Imagine the World Without Her” on the FOX News set….at the same time! I encourage you to watch here! One man loves what the other is ashamed of. The one who “loves” is country is indicted for the very same reason Ben Carson was audited by the IRS within hours of speaking out against Political Correctness in front of the President at the WH Prayer Breakfast, while Ayers is rewarded with tenure and access to our children…for murder and destruction of property!!!!
“For if approximately half the country is dependent, deceived and seduced, what about the other half – the tens of millions of right-thinking Americans, the patriots, the soldiers and veterans, the entrepreneurs and inventors, the visionaries and risk-takers, and all the regular hard-working citizens who thank God for the blessing of living in the greatest country on earth?” ~WND, The Real America
The “Two Americas” WND writes about are on an irreconcilable path to war because the values held by one have been strategically targeted for destruction by the other. If this were Europe, we would have bargained our values away by now. In fact, Europeans have and as a result they’ve consigned themselves to living as serfs owned by ruling class elite for the next hundred years. We are not Europeans though…and the only possible thing that could save us from the horrors of this inevitable war is the God one of us will not deny, and the other will not accept.
I read a liberty post yesterday where someone challenged Donald Trump to offer a $50 million dollar reward for the IRS employee(s) who come forward with the missing emails. I have a better idea and one that reflects more accurately just who “We the People” are. I would offer the $50 million to that soul among us (and it could very well be Ed!) who comes up with the “fix”…which has NOTHING to do with lost emails. It has EVERYTHING to do with uniting our wants! Now there’s a bargain!
